This Opera lark grows on you...just got back from a third viewing of the rehearsals of Duchy Opera's latest excursion, The Elixir Of Love. Dates from 1830s, Tristam and Isolde based, and a mildly comic interpretation that's still able to stir emotion and move you...
OK, so it was a band rehearsal, a cue walkthrough and then the full dress rehearsal on stage, but the more you see and hear it, the better; from slightly less interesting to fully engaged over 3 sessions

Fabulous Dress Rehearsal last night with beautiful glorious singing and lovely accompaniment. Great to see the set and costumes all together in one place. Belcore's uniform has now ARRIVED with effusive apologies from the London costumiers - "it's magnificent", as Nemorino would say. Come and see The Elixir of Love tomorrow (Weds) at Truro College 7.30 - we will have some tickets at the door, or book via CRBO ow.ly/DsCAE
Belcore actually wore a smart red Cornwall Air Ambulance teeshirt to top off his Sergeant's uniform. Wait till you see the real thing on Wednesday! Pics by Linda Petzing (now where is that pic. of Belcore?) Brilliant session with Cornwall Learning today at The 2nd Cornwall Music Education Hub conference in Wadebridge. A roomful of very friendly delegates joined in an enthusiastic rendition of the Toreador Song, and participated in the first public airing of Paul Drayton's very funny Opera Song. Thanks to Tanya Moore and Nicola Cawrse from CL, and all the hard-working Duchy Opera School Run singers.
![]() The ELIXIR will be arriving in Truro College (Mylor Theatre) a week today - Wednesday 29th OCTOBER "....This amazing remedy is what you ought to buy, You bachelors and husbands, you girls and married women, Don’t wait because I only have a limited supply. And here I have a recipe especially prepared by me for curing any malady immediately and unfailingly. It kills the worst rheumatic pain, relieves a cough and muscle strain; No matter what your trouble is, it makes you feel like new. Though this may seem a paradox, it also cures the chicken-pox, It makes hysteric girls serene, makes thin men fat, and fat men lean." Why wait? Come and get some! On November 29th we are holding a Masterclass in Truro School Chapel. It will be led by Richard Jackson, and will be an opportunity for singers of all voices to work on the performance and interpretation of their own selected pieces, whether for audition, as preparation for recitals or just as a learning experience. Richard has many years' experience of working with singers in Opera, Lieder and Classical English song at many levels at establishments such as the Royal College of Music. Currently he is directing our opera The Elixir of Love. This is a great opportunity to gain from his knowledge and skills, and to enhance your performance.
Entry fee £20 half hour session - two prepared pieces - and observation of the whole day's masterclasses. Observers will be welcome at £5. For more details please Contact Us. |
