Duchy Opera Open Auditions
Fresh talent is always welcome at Duchy Opera. Whether your talent lies onstage or offstage, you can gain valuable experience and exposure in a friendly professional atmosphere.
Singers
Soloists: Duchy Opera auditions, which are held as needed throughout the year, will be advertised through local media and singing teachers. There is no audition fee. The excerpts we wish you to sing at the audition will be available at least 6 weeks prior to the audition dates. An accompanist will be provided, although you may of course bring your own.
Unfortunately, we are not in a position to pay our singers. But we do provide valuable experience in standard repertoire and exposure to a wide audience (average 700 attendees per performance) in fully-staged productions with a 40-60 piece orchestra.

It is the policy of Duchy Opera to always cast productions from inside Cornwall in the first instance. If there are any roles that remain unfilled however, the Company will then consider singers from outside the county.
Chorus
As above, please contact the administrator, via email at: administrator@duchyopera.co.uk. We are especially in need of tenors and basses. It is an advantage for chorus members to be able to read music, but not essential. They must, however, be available to attend rehearsals on Sunday evenings, as well as extra rehearsals as needed.
Technical Staff
The backbone of any opera company is backstage. We are always looking for technical staff of any experience level for the following positions:
- Production Assistants
- Carpenters/Painters
- Make up/Hair Assistants
- Publicity/Marketing Assistants
- Theatre Ushers
- Stage hands and clean up!
Anyone who can help will be made to feel most welcome. No pay, but you get to support and see fine opera for free! |
