What a Bash!

What a Feast of music and festivity we enjoyed when Duchy Opera opened its summer season with Johann Strauss’s Die Fledermaus, at Falmouth’s Princess Pavilion.
Who doesn’t love a Viennese Waltz? Intoxicating melodies by “the King of the Waltz” had the audience practically whirling with delight in their seats. Strauss’s hypnotic waltz music is famous throughout the world, but this production is a wholly Cornish triumph, showcasing the county’s top musical talent, from directors to translator and soloists.
There are still 4 more opportunities to see this vibrant show.

Tickets are still available for this delightful Summer evening of Open Air Opera, food and wine at Park House, Truro:

FODO (Friends of Duchy Opera) is an amazing group of friends and supporters who have tirelessly worked together for longer than I can remember, putting on wonderful musical events to raise funds to enable Duchy Opera to continue  producing opera year after year.
Their latest event will be held at the stunning 18th century Manor House of Boconnoc, near Lostwithiel. It is one of Cornwall's most beautiful country homes.

Rebecca playing Casilda, with Louis Dutton (Image: Duchy Opera)

Proud mum, Rebecca, said: “We are over the moon. To be starting 2024 with a beautiful baby boy in my arms is the greatest gift I could have ever wished for.”
Singing widely throughout Cornwall, Rebecca has built a strong following among opera and music lovers. But she is particularly well-known for taking leading roles with the Duchy Opera Company. Last year, she played Santuzza in Mascagni’s Cavalleria Rusticana at Falmouth and Truro, and the year before she played Casilda in Gilbert & Sullivan’s Gondoliers.

Right now though she is practicing her nappy rather than nocturne skills, and keeping her vocal chords in tune by singing soothing lullabies to baby Archie.
Rebecca said: “Archie and I have received the very best of care from everyone who looked after us at hospital, through to the midwife and health visitor, and since arriving back home in the early hours of Christmas Day.
"Archie was born in Treliske, the same as me, so I’ve gone full circle.”                                  (T. Hunter for the Falmouth Packet)
